Trucking Jobs – Tips for New Hires from US Trucking Service

Written by: Admin
Tips for Newly Hired Truck Drivers

You’ve just been hired by a trucking company, and you want to be with them for the long distance, so to speak. We understand  and want to help you. Here are some of our favorite tips for making a good impression on your new boss.

Show respect for the company’s time

You demonstrate respect for your employer’s time by doing these kinds of things:

  •   Clock in on time.
  •   Don’t clock out early, except for emergencies.
  •   Don’t extend your breaks longer than the allotted time.
  •   Don’t call in unless you are genuinely sick or have a real emergency. The boss who hired you is counting on you, so make every effort to be there for them.

Dress to impress

  •   If you’re required to wear a uniform for a truck driver job or any other position, make sure it’s clean and pressed.
  •   Be sure you have any other required form of dress, like non-slip shoes. Don’t show up without them.
  •   If you have a customer service job, pay a little extra attention to your appearance. You always want to project a favorable company image by being clean and neatly dressed.

Be part of the team

Remember, employers want employees, who’ll jump in and lend a hand and be a team player.

  •   Try to be positive and friendly, even when the going gets tough. Without overdoing it and being phony, try to lift the spirits of fellow workers who may be struggling in some way.
  •   Lend a helping hand to a coworker who may be struggling in some way.
  •   If you see an obvious need, take care of it without being asked or told.

Work smart and work hard

Working smart and hard helps both you and your boss, and here are some suggestions for doing that.

  •   Whether you’re truck driving or working in the office, know exactly what the boss wants from day one. Then work hard to meet or exceed those expectations.
  •   Take in as much information as you can and take plenty of notes. That way, new responsibilities don’t have to be explained repeatedly.
  •   Don’t play on social media on the company’s time.
  •   Try to add value. Anything you can do, even small things to save company time, money and supplies, can help you stand out and earn the gratitude of your boss.
